Anna Nowicka

"the truth is just a plain picture.
said bob."

Little by little we are replaced... by uninterrupted chain of images, enslaving one another, each image at its place, as each of us, at our place, in the chain of events on which we have lost all power.
Where does the border between truth and fiction lie?
What lives under the layers of illusion?
Nothing?

Anna Nowicka, graduate of the Warsaw University (psychology depart- ment), Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance, and Ernst-Busch/HZT in Berlin. She defines herself in relation to the Art Stations Foundation in Poland, the work of Mala Kline and Dragana Alfirevic, her meeting with Peter Pleyer, and Tomi Janezic’s postgraduate artistic residency in Krusce, Slovenia. In recent years, based on her long term interest in the work on dreams, imagination and physical actions, she started developing methodology to be applied to an artistic creation. Her focus lies on questions of imagination and creativity, and a body as a field of poten- tiality, in the state of constant becoming. Her works do not follow certain estetics, but rather share an interest to challenge the gaze, and lead it towards the unseen, uncanny and unknown. In 2011 Anna’s research has been recognized, and she was rewarded DAAD Preis followed by the choreographic scholarship from the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes. In 2012 she received danceWEB scholarship at the ImPulsTanz Festival in Vienna. She is currently studying at the School of Images of dr Catherine Shainberg.
